Douglas Tesner is an experienced newspaper, magazine and freelance photojournalist who currently resides in Traverse City, Michigan and works full time for the Traverse City Record-Eagle Newspaper.
He has worked on papers across the county including the Gallup Independent in Gallup, NM, Columbia Flyer (Patuxent Publishing Company) in Columbia, MD, and The Manassas Journal Messenger in Manassas, VA. In addition he has done freelance work for Sunset Magazine, Indian Peoples Magazine, American Indian Report Magazine, New York Times, LA Times, Santa Fe New Mexican, The Washington Post, LA Times, The Associated Press, Getty Images, The Catholic News Service and others.
A retired military photojournalist and graduated from Syracuse University’s Navy Program in Photojournalism and has won many photographic awards include the prestigious Navy Photojournalist of the Year and Honorable Mention Military Photographer of the Year.
Recently he won 2nd Place News Photo in the MPPA Clip contest January 2005, 3rd Place Sports Action Picture in the Atlanta Photojournalism 2004 and his photographs have been selected for MSNBC Week in Pictures, Washington Post’s Camera Works, Day in Photos and San Francisco Chronicle’s Day in Pictures. In addition he won 3 NM APME awards for 2002, 3rd Place News Photo for NPPA’s April 2002 regional (Region 8) clip contest.
