The Michigan Heart Gallery - Post

This message was received from the MPPA and I thought this would be a good place to post it.

As a former press photographer, I'd like to seek your involvement in a project to benefit children from Michigan's foster care system who are in need of permanent families through adoption. We are currently looking for photographers to create pictures to be featured in a traveling exhibit, The Michigan Heart Gallery.

The Heart Gallery concept originated in New Mexico and has proven to be very successful in finding permanent families for children from the foster care system. The concept is simple, create strong portraits which show the child's personality, then let the pictures speak for the children.

There are over 300 children in Michigan currently waiting to be adopted through the foster care system. Most of these children are African American, over the age of 8, or need to be adopted along with other brothers and sisters. You can help them by volunteering your photography skills, and by bringing attention to The Michigan Heart Gallery project.

Photographers and children will be matched together to have photographs created through the months of June, July and August. We then plan to premiere the gallery in mid-November, with an opening in the State Capitol's Rotunda. The gallery will then be moved on a monthly basis to other locations throughout the state.

The Michigan Heart Gallery is being coordinated by the Michigan Adoption Resource Exchange and the Adoptive Family Support Network, both non-profit agencies dedicated to child welfare.
If you are interested in participating or would like more information, please visit our website, http://www.miheart.org, or contact me directly.

Sincerely
Kenyon Kopp
