Bird Rescue - Photo


Traverse City, Mich. - 8/06/2005 - John Snodgrass and his daughter Kimberly, 7, watch a great blue heron on Cass Street at the Cass Street Bridge over the Boardman River in downtown Traverse City, Mich., Saturday, August 06, 2005. A fishing lure and some fishing line entangled the right wing so it could not fly. Later Snodgrass and another bystander, Jason McAllister (not pictured), captured the bird, remover the fishing lure and fishing line and released the bird unscathed.

Northwestern Michigan Fair 1 - Photo



Ben Walker and his son Alex work with their llama, Dream King. The suri llama will be one of 7 that will be shown at the Northwestern Michigan Fair. Alex belongs to the Wrong Way Wabbit/Llama Lovers 4H club in Grawn.

Grawn, Mich. - 08/05/2005 - Brittany Denter grooms her junior beef steer, Sunie. The young 4H'er who weighs about 130 pounds easily handles the 1,100 pound steer. Brittany belongs to the Richety Ranchers 4H club in Kingsley and will be showing Sunie in the Northwestern Michigan Fair.

Traverse City, Mich. - 08/03/2005 - Mitch Cleland, who works for Break-N-Waves, and Morgan Hiller cool off Wednesday afternoon August 3, 2005, on the East Grand Traverse Bay near Traverse City, Mich. Break-N-Waves rents personal watercraft to the public on the bay. According to Bruce Smith, of the National Service, temperatures in Traverse City reached 92 degrees, with a heat index of 96 degrees.

Harbor Days 2 - Photo


Florence Roth, an employee with Arnold Amusement, Inc., sets up some of the prizes that will be given away at the Shark Attack game during the carnival at Harbor Days in Elk Rapids. Harbor Days will run from the 3rd thru the 6th of August.

Elk Rapids, Mich. - 08/02/2005 - Chuck Tasker, owner of the goldfish game, braves the heat and high humidity to set up his tent for the Harbor Days carnival in Elk Rapids. The rides for the carnival are being provided by Arnold Amusement, Inc. The carnival starts August 3, 2005.

Elk Rapids, Mich. - 08/02/2005 - Jerry Hubbell, post commander of AMVETS Post114 in Elk Rapids, looks for fallen comrades on the Michigan Vietnam Wall. The Wall has 2649 names of Michigan military personal that lost their lives during the Vietnam War. The wall will be on display in Veterans Park during the Army Jazz Band's performance, Thursday during Harbor Days in Elk Rapids. The jazz band will perform at 5 pm, 6pm and 7 pm Thursday.

Korean Photo Competition - Post


The Chosun daily newspaper, one of South Korea's leading newspapers, and Olympus, Korea have partnered to establish the International Documentary Photo Awards Korea 2005. This Award was established to recognize excellence in the field of documentary journalism and foster dialogue between domestic and international photojournalists through informal discussion and sharing of ideas.

It was also created to promote the development of Korean documentary photos through exchange with international photographers. The importance of this Award is to unearth photographers who have not only passion, but also ability.

The competition is open to all photographers local and international. We hope to have many applications from international documentary photographers and expect to have much interest from you.

Traverse Bay Freedom Film - Fest - Photo


Traverse City, Mich. - 07/30/2005 - Volunteers Michele Smith and Cindi Smith install patriotic decorations and bunting inside the Horizon Cinemas for the Traverse Bay Freedom Film - Fest. The film fest was held as an alternative to the Traverse City Film Festival that Michael Moore and Doug Stanton organized.

As you can tell from the last two pictures I have a new lens. I purchased a Canon 15mm 2.8 EF and am having a lot of fun using it.
