Traverse City, Mich. - 09/08/2005 - Beach goers enjoy the last days on the East Grand Traverse Bay. Some sunbathed while others just walked the beach looking for the last of the summer season.

Now that my paper is back to full staff in the photo department I get a day or two off and I am enjoying them. I searched my archives and thought this was a classic and always wanted to post it, just never had the time.

Harvest - Photo

Traverse City, Mich - 09-28-2005 - Eugene Lautner makes a final pass at one of his fields as he harvests corn for silage along M72 just outside of Traverse City. Lautner has about 35 acres to harvest. "It been a very good year for my corn crop," he said.

Salmon Harvest - Photo

Salmon wait on ice to be transported to a facility in Bear Lake where they will be processed. Some of the salmon are also give to the Clinch Park Zoo to be feed to the different animals.

Traverse City, Mich. - 09/27/2005 - David Rose an employee with American Canadian Fisheries throws a Chinook salmon into a chute during the salmon harvest at the Michigan Department of Natural Resources James P. Price Trap and Transfer/Harvest Facility on the Boardman River in Traverse City Tuesday. The harvest started Tuesday morning and will go on for approximately four weeks. According to DNR records and Eric Askam an DNR employee, on the first day 1566 Chinook and 10 Coho salmon were harvested. Last year 7,765 Chinook and 1,432 Coho salmon where harvested at the facility during the season.
