Bicentennial Barn - Photo




The Bicentennial Barn on M-22 near Glen Arbor will get a face lift over the next year. The barn was originally painted in 1976 with a bicentennial theme.
Glen Arbor, Mich. - 09/03/2005 - Susan Shields owns the Bicentennial Barn on M-22 near Glen Arbor. She remembers seeing it originally painted. Shields purchased the barn 2003 and felt it need a facelift. The barn was originally owned by the Shalda family.

Price Of Gas - Photo



Traverse City, Mich. - 09/01/2005 - Dan Dohm and employee of Traverse City Area Public Schools fill up his bus with diesel fuel at the facility on Cass road. His buss holds 60 gallons of the fuel. Ralph Atwies a transportation employee said, "All the TCAP the buses use more than 1,400 gallons a day and average 6.8 mpg". (Top) Cars wait in line for gas that carried a price of $3.199 at the Clark station on Front Street. While customers waited in line an attendant, who did not want to be identified, came out and change the price to $339.9. The attendant said, this was the third time he had changed the prices on Wednesday.

Traverse City, Mich. - 09/01/2005 - Abby Machin, 5, shows off her glasses that help her see. She received the glasses after a cataract condition in her eyes was discovered. The condition may have gone unnoticed if it were not for the public health screening program to check children's eyesight and hearing. The screen program could end in 2006 due to state budget cuts proposed by Gov. Jennifer Granholm.

Invasive Plant - Photo




George Eggenberger, holds a hand full seed heads from several Phragmite plants. The seed heads were cut by volunteer members of the Little Traverse Lake Association in an effort to stop the spread of the non-native invasive plant species.
Traverse City, Mich. - 08/31/2005 - George Eggenberger, a member of the Little Traverse Lake Association, cuts the seed head off a Phragmite or also known as a common reed plant. The U.S. National Park Service has determined through DNA that the Phragmite plants just off Shady Lane near Little Traverse Lake are not native to the area.
