Smile for the Camera - Photo

Traverse City, Mich. - 08/19/2005 - Elk in velvet wander in a pasture along Cedar Run Road. The two elk are the pets of Craig and John Therrien and are what remains of the brothers' elk ranch which is now closed. The elk on the left, smiling at the camera, is call Desert and is eight-years-old. The elk on the right is Dinner and is seven-years-old.

And before you ask, that is not my pants hanging in the antlers. That is velvet which is coming off the antlers.

Hog Rider "Kicks Ass" - Photo

Traverse City, Mich. - 08/13/2005 - One last fair picture, I promise! Gail Swed was named 2005 Homemaker of the Year at the Northwestern Michigan Fair. Swed entered several arts & crafts and baking projects in the fair. "I kicked ass," Swed said with a little giggle and smile. Along with her fair projects Swed is also an avid Harley Davidson Motorcycle rider. "I like to live my life to the fullest," said the mother of 2. Swed is riding her bike this weekend Flint, to see Willie Nelson. She said she presents him with a carrot cake every year.

When I turned this picture in everyone in the newsroom wanted to know if this was for real or a joke, it seems that the reporter never mentioned the Homemaker of Year was also a "biker chick", to use their words. They are rewriting the story now to include that one of Swed's passions is riding her hog.
